Story trails
Short guided routes: pick one, then step from stop to stop on the map.
A trail strings several pins together so they tell one story, for example how an idea travelled along a trade route. Each stop has a summary and a link to read more, and the map zooms to the next place as you move on. Trails are not travel itineraries; they are ways of reading the map.
Open a trail page to see all its stops as a list, or choose the map button to follow it visually. Looking for side-by-side comparisons instead? See Same thing, different places.

Frequently asked questions
What is a story trail?
A short, ordered route of pins that together tell one story, with a few lines on each stop.
How long does a trail take?
Most trails have a handful of stops and take a few minutes to read.
Can I use a trail to plan a trip?
Trails are for learning, not logistics. Distances between stops can be large, and opening times, prices and entry rules are not covered.
Can I suggest a new trail?
Yes, send the idea through the contact page and mention the places you would include.
