Privacy policy

The short version: no accounts, no advertising and no tracking scripts. Last updated November 2026.

What stays in your browser

Your Passport stamps, daily quiz streak, saved preferences and recent searches are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not sent to us. You can remove them at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings.

What your browser requests from other services

To draw the map, your browser fetches map tiles from a tile provider based on OpenStreetMap data. When you open a place, its picture is requested from Wikipedia. Those services receive the technical information any web request carries, such as your IP address and browser type, and are governed by their own policies.

Hosting and logs

This site is served through Cloudflare. Like most hosts, Cloudflare may process standard request data such as IP address and pages requested to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use that data to identify visitors.

Suggestions and messages

If you submit a place suggestion or write to us, we store what you send so that we can review and answer it. Suggestion forms may keep a short-lived, one-way hashed form of your network address to limit spam. We do not sell or share what you send.

Cookies

We do not set advertising or analytics cookies. If that ever changes, this page will be updated first.

Children

The atlas is general-interest and not directed at young children. It collects no personal information from anyone.

Your choices

You can use the atlas without sending us anything. To ask about a message you sent, or to have it deleted, use the contact page.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the atlas use cookies or analytics?

No advertising or analytics cookies are set. Preferences are kept in your browser's local storage.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts or logins.

Where is my Passport data stored?

Only in your own browser. Clearing site data removes it, and it does not move between devices.

Which third parties see my visit?

The map tile provider, Wikipedia (for place pictures) and the hosting provider, each through the normal requests your browser makes.

How do I delete a suggestion I sent?

Contact us with the details and we will remove it.
