Everyday customs that visitors and newcomers often find useful in Peru.
- Greeting A handshake or a single cheek kiss among friends is common. Greet each person in a room.
- Dining Hosts offer lots of food; accept and try a little of everything. Lunch is a major meal.
- Public Ask before photographing people in traditional dress; a tip is often expected.
- Time Social events usually start late.
- Dress Dress for the weather and altitude, and cover up in churches.
These are general customs, not rules or legal advice. They differ between regions, generations and families, and they change over time. For visas, residency and legal requirements always use the destination country's official government sources.
